Twitter can be a bit like a conveyor belt.

If you’re tuned in at the right time, you might spot a gem , or a cuddly toy.

On the downside, you miss thousands of things.

We probably shouldn’t  let that bother us, however I thought it might be useful to list a few of the best things I’ve spotted recently, in case you missed them.

Here goes…

1. The chap who created a Twitter bot to automatically enter competitions. He “entered” 165,000 over the course of nine months, winning 1,000 prizes.

2. The Wired 100  list of Europe’s 100  most influential people, according to Wired Magazine.

3. The news (via Ofcom) that the average Brit watches 3 hrs 40 minutes of TV (on a TV set) per day.

4. A thoughtful political essay by Danny Kruger (former speechwriter to David Cameron) embracing early intervention, amongst other themes.

5. The obituary of Burt Shavitz, c0-founder of Burt’s Bees, who died recently, aged 80.

6. This Forbes list of the 100 richest people in tech.

7. The Lexus Hoverboard which, although it seems to require a rail to run above, is still extremely impressive.

8. A piece by Bill Gates, explaining why he is investing a billion dollars of his own money into clean energy research.

9. This thoughtful article by Alice Bentinck on the characteristics of successful company founders.

10. News of the government’s public consultation on sport strategy.

11. Details of the ten reports published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in July.

12. A brilliant piece of detective work from Devon police involving a robbery, an M&S bag and a pack of ham.

13. This global ranking of startup ecosystems, in which London comes 6th.

14. These eleven recommendations from Tech UK on how we can meet the digital skills challenge.
