The Property Pledge

The Property Pledge

Acorn

OK, here’s an idea.

When you buy a new house, you are given the option of signing a pledge.

You pledge that, on sale of that house, a small percentage of the increase in its value will go to a charity of your choice.

You can choose the percentage, however let’s say it’s 1%. This would be a pledge and as such would not be legally binding however the seed would have been sown.

On the sale of the house, you’d be reminded of the pledge and could act to fulfil it.

If the house falls in value, you pay nothing. The scheme would be promoted by benefiting charities and pushed as an option by estate agents as “you may wish to consider the Property Pledge”.

Over time, this would raise millions for good causes and give homeowners a simple, innovative way to give to charity.

What do you think?‪

  1. In principle its a great idea. Needs to be pushed by conveyancers not estate agents though, as ultimately they will be the ones dealing with the legals and paperwork. Also, would need conveyancers to do the ‘extra work’ for free – BACS payments, TT’s etc.
If done via estate agents, would need the backing and promotion of a ‘national’ – talk to Robin Klein re Zoopla.
